Meet The Doctor & Staff

Dr. Elba Castro was born in San Francisco, CA and was raised throughout the United States and in San Salvador, El Salvador. She attended the University of Virginia, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 2004. She received her Doctorate in Dental Medicine from Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine graduating magna cum laude in 2008 and won the Excellence in Operative Dentistry award. Upon completing her degree, she returned to Virginia and began her work in dentistry at a private Cosmetic and General Dentistry practice in Richmond. After 2 years of private practice, she decided to pursue her desire to specialize in endodontics and was accepted as an endodontic resident at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. Dr. Castro received her Endodontic Specialty Certificate and began to work in multiple Northern Virginia locations prior to opening her Ashburn practice in 2014.

During her residency program, Dr. Castro conducted research using cone beam computed tomography to investigate age and gender-related differences in the inferior alveolar nerve position with regards to the mandibular second molar. She has performed numerous surgical procedures using micro surgical techniques and has presented at the American Association of Endodontics annual meeting.

Dr. Castro is a member of the Penick Study Club, Spear Study Club, Seattle Study Club, American Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association and Northern Virginia Dental Society.

In her spare time, Dr. Castro enjoys snowboarding, hiking, traveling around the world, visiting local wineries, and spending time with her three year old, five year old and twelve year old sons and husband.   

Dr. Asmi Shah, DDS, is a proud Virginian native.
Raised in Richmond, VA she earned her Doctorate in Dental Surgery from Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Shah then attended West Virginia University,
where she served as chief resident during her
Endodontic specialty training.
She is adept in Root Canal Therapy, Retreatment Procedures, Apexification, Regeneration,
Apicoectomies, and more!

She enjoys giving back to the community by working with Mission of Mercy of Virginia, Give Kids a Smile, The Special Olympics, and Veteran communities.

In her leisure time, Dr. Shah loves traveling, dance, cooking, hiking, and photography. She is a new mom to her baby boy and loves spending time with family.

I am a jack of all trades here at AEV. I am a certified dental assistant of 12 years, marketing manager, and a treatment coordinator. I absolutely love and enjoy every single thing about my job! Making sure my patients are comfortable and at ease is my first and foremost goal. Needing to get a root canal done may not sound like such a fun thing to do, however I can assure you that Dr. Castro and I will have you smiling and maybe even laughing by the time you leave our office. In my spare time I enjoy watching mostly all reality tv shows, comedy movies, and spending time with my family and friends.

I  was born on October 18 in Mexico. I was raised in Winchester since the age of 3 and graduated from Fauquier High School in Warrenton. After some time, I decided to pursue my dental career and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Working with Dr. Castro is always great and may I say she is funny! Being able to spread positivity to our patients brings me joy. Outside of work I love spending time with my two daughters, watching movies, listening to podcasts, and thoroughly enjoy the countryside, horses and horseback riding.

James is our go to guy! He assists the team with whatever needs done! James has great enthusiasm for helping our patients feel their best!
